What is Life Coaching?
It is based on the client’s expressed interests, goals and objectives.
Life coaching is a practice with the aim of helping clients determine and achieve personal goals. Life coaches use multiple methods that will help clients with the process of setting and reaching goals. Coaching is not targeted at psychological illness and coaches are not therapists nor consultants.
Life coaching has its roots in executive coaching, which itself drew on techniques developed in management consulting and leadership training.
Coaching is unlike therapy because it does not focus on examining nor diagnosing the past. Instead life coaching focuses on effecting change in a client’s current and future behaviour and/or performance.
According to a survey of coaching clients, “motivator” and “sounding board” were the top roles selected for a coach.
As a professional life coach I use incisive questions to discuss your current situation and work with you to identify the best way forward for you. I help you challenge limiting beliefs (beliefs we protect ourselves with – I.e. “I’ll never lose weight because…”). I can work with you to overcome challenges and focus on your true end goal.
Life coaching can take place face to face, over the telephone or via e-mail. Contact me for more information on life coaching and we can discuss which option is best for you.
